Season Best 42 Kills Leads Tartans Past Bethany, 3-0

(BETHANY, W.Va.) - The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team put down a season-best 42 kills on its way to a 3-0 victory at Bethany College on Sunday, March 28. The Tarans won by set scores of 25-20, 25-18, and 25-22 to move to 3-0 for the season.

Junior Anna Cao (Princeton, N.J. / Princeton) led the Tartans with 10 kills in 22 attempts for a .364 hitting percentage. Senior Diana Balta (Media, Pa. / Penncrest) and freshman Jane Dean (Wilmette, Ill. / New Trier) each put down six kills to follow Cao. Freshman Michelle Deng (Calgary, Alberta / Western Canada) led with a season-best 18 assists with sophomore Stella Yan (Coppell, Texas / Coppell) collecting 14 assists. Deng also led the squad with three service aces.

Defensively, freshman Laura Reichard (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico / Saint John's School) and senior Julia Kim (Centreville, Va. / Chantilly) each had 15 digs with Balta picking up 11 digs.

The Tartans will next face Division II Gannon University on Saturday, April 10 at Gannon. The match is set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
