Tartans End Play at Mount Union Invitational

(ALLIANCE, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on Saturday at the Mount Union Invitational in Alliance, Ohio. The Tartans started the day with a 3-2 (27-25, 21-25, 25-20, 21-25, 15-10) loss to SUNY Brockport before College of Wooster defeated the Tartans 3-1 (25-20, 26-24, 22-25, 26-24). The Cardinal and Gray are now 2-2 overall.

Against Brockport, Senior Vivian Beaudoin (Washington, N.J. / Warren Hills) and sophomore Jane Dean (Wilmette, Ill. / New Trier) each had 12 kills to lead the charge for the Tartans. Senior Carrie Stewart (Victor, N.Y./Victor) along with sophomore Laura Reichard (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico / Saint John's School) added eight apiece.

Junior Stella Yan (Coppell, Texas/Coppell) dished out 36 assists and recorded two of the Tartans 10 aces against Brockport. Freshman Abby Chen (Fairfax, Va. / Oakton) led the way with four aces while Reichard had three.

At the net, Beaudoin and Dean both recorded two block solos. Yan had a team-high 25 digs with Chen and Reichard ending with 20 and 17, respectively.

In the nightcap, Beaudoin, who was named to the All-Tournament Team, and Reichard were the only two Tartans with double-digit kills, as they both had 16. Yan handed out a career-best 38 assists while recording 11 digs. Chen along with junior Olivia Devereux (Manhattan Beach, Calif. / Marymount) each had three aces in the loss. Reichard ended with 15 digs to lead the team with Chen collecting 14.

Carnegie Mellon will travel to Richardson, Texas on September 10-11 to compete in the University of Texas at Dallas Fall Festival. The Tartans open play against the host Comets at 7:30 p.m. CT on Friday.
