Tartans Take #5 Emory to Fifth Set

(CHICAGO, Ill.) – The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team completed play on Sunday afternoon at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Round Robin #1 hosted by University of Chicago. The Tartans dropped a 3-2 (25-16, 14-25, 25-19, 23-25, 15-10) contest to fifth-ranked Emory University.

Carnegie Mellon trailed 20-16 in set four before winning nine of the last 12 points to force a fifth-and-deciding set against fifth-ranked Emory University. The setback evens the Tartans record at 5-5 overall and 2-1 in UAA play while Emory moves to 10-2, 3-0 with the win.

Senior Vivian Beaudoin (Washington, N.J. / Warren Hills) led the Tartans with a career-high 22 kills while hitting .439. Junior Olivia Devereux (Manhattan Beach, Calif. / Marymount) ended with nine kills and senior Anna Cao (Princeton, N.J. / Princeton) had eight. Sophomore Mindee Lai (Belmont, Mass. / Belmont) handed out 37 assists and added two aces.

Sophomore Laura Reichard (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico / Saint John's School) recorded a career-best six aces with senior Erin Westberg (Cary, N.C. / Cardinal Gibbons) also recording a career-high with three.

For the second straight day, Beaudoin tied her career-high with six block assists. Senior Carrie Stewart (Victor, N.Y./Victor) and sophomore Jane Dean (Wilmette, Ill. / New Trier) each had three block assists. Freshman Abby Chen (Fairfax, Va. / Oakton) led with 17 digs. Reichard added 15 and senior Liz Jankowski (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Oakland Catholic) had 10.

The Tartans will host Susquehanna University on Friday, September 24 at 7:00 p.m. in Wiegand Gymnasium at the Cohon University Center.
