Tartans Split a Pair of Matches at Home

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Carnegie Mellon University's volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday at its home quad. The Tartans opened the day with a 3-0 (37-35, 25-19, 25-16) setback to Westminster College before defeating University of Mount Union 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-14). The Tartans are now 6-7 overall

sophomore Laura Reichard (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico / Saint John's School) led the Tartans with 14 kills against Westminster with seniors Anna Cao (Princeton, N.J. / Princeton) and Carrie Stewart (Victor, N.Y. / Victor) each adding nine.

Sophomore Mindee Lai (Belmont, Mass. / Belmont) and junior Stella Yan (Coppell, Texas/Coppell) combined for 39 assists. Lai had 22 and Yan ended with 17.

Freshman Abby Chen (Fairfax, Va. / Oakton) led 23 digs. Reichard along with seniors Liz Jankowski (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Oakland Catholic) and Erin Westberg (Cary, N.C. / Cardinal Gibbons) all had 10.

Reichard along wit Cao led the Cardinal and Gray in the win over Mount Union with 13 and 11 kills, respectively. Yan dished out 39 assists with Lai leading the Tartans with four aces.

Chen had a game-high 24 digs while Jankowski has 11 and Reichard 10. At the net Stewart totaled four block assists and Reichard three.

Next up for the Tartans is the University Athletic Association (UAA) Round Robin #2 to be played at Brandeis University on Sunday, October 3. The Tartans will start play against the University of Rochester at 12 p.m. followed by a 2:00 p.m. match against University of Chicago.
