Tartans End Play at UAA Round Robin #2

(WALTHAM, Mass.) - The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team continued University Athletic Association (UAA) action at Brandeis University with two matches on Sunday. The Tartans started play with a 3-0 (25-17, 30-28, 25-21) University of Rochester, before dropping a 3-0 (25-12, 25-22, 25-14) match to 22nd-ranked University of Chicago. The Tartans are now 7-8 overall and 3-2 in UAA play.

In the win over Rochester, seniors Anna Cao (Princeton, N.J. / Princeton) and sophomore Jane Dean (Wilmette, Ill. / New Trier) led with 14 and 10 kills, respectively. Junior Stella Yan (Coppell, Texas/Coppell) handed out for 35 assists.

Defensively, freshman Abby Chen (Fairfax, Va. / Oakton) had 14 digs, Yan totaled 10 with sophomore Laura Reichard (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico / Saint John's School) ending with nine.

Senior Carrie Stewart (Victor, N.Y./Victor) and Yan each had five kills in the setback to the Maroons with Yan finishing with 19 assists. Cao led on the defensive side with 10 digs, as Chen tabbed nine.

The Tartans will be back o the court on Friday, October 8 when they compete at the Johns Hopkins University Tri-Match. The Cardinal and Gray will start play at 6:00 p.m. against Salisbury University before playing the host Blue Jays at 8:00 p.m.
