Tartans Start Wid Guisler Invitational with 3-0 Victory Over York

(HUNTINGDON, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University's volleyball team opened play at the 2021 Wid Guisler Invitational on Friday hosted by Juniata College. The Tartans took down York (Pa.) College 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-21) to even their record at 10-10 while York is now 14-8.

Senior Anna Cao (Princeton, N.J. / Princeton) along with sophomores Laura Reichard (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico / Saint John's School) and Jane Dean (Wilmette, Ill. / New Trier) all had 10 kills in the win for the Cardinal and Gray with Dean hitting .429. Junior Stella Yan (Coppell, Texas/Coppell) handed out 32 assists and recorded her 1000th career assist. She now has 1,030 for her career and ranks 10th on the program's all-time list.

Freshman Abby Chen (Fairfax, Va. / Oakton) matched a career-high with five aces. It also marked the second time in her last three games that she has recorded five aces. The freshman also led the Tartans with 11 digs.

At the net, Dean recorded five block assists and senior Erin Westberg (Cary, N.C. / Cardinal Gibbons) ended with three.

The Tartans return to action on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. against Wesleyan University before facing 10th-ranked Juniata at 4:00 p.m.
