Tartans Top Wesleyan in Split at Wid Guisler Invitational

(HUNTINGDON, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University's volleyball team split a pair of matches at the second day of the 2021 Wid Guisler Invitational on Saturday hosted by Juniata College. The Tartans defeated Wesleyan University 3-2 (18-25, 20-25, 25-17, 25-19, 15-12) to start play Saturday and then lost 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-18) to 10th-ranked Juniata. The Tartans are now 11-11 overall.

In the win over Wesleyan, seniors Vivian Beaudoin (Washington, N.J. / Warren Hills) and Anna Cao (Princeton, N.J. / Princeton) led the attack with 16 and 15 kills, respectively, with sophomore Jane Dean (Wilmette, Ill. / New Trier) tabbing 11. Junior Stella Yan (Coppell, Texas/Coppell) handed out a career-high 50 assists in the win with sophomore Laura Reichard (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico / Saint John's School) leading the Tartans with a career-best five aces.

Defensively, freshman Abby Chen (Fairfax, Va. / Oakton) led with 23 digs. Cao had 17 while Yan recorded 14 and sophomore Mindee Lai (Belmont, Mass. / Belmont) had 13. At the net, Dean had five block assists and a solo block. Beaudoin and Yan each had four assists with Beaudoin also adding a solo.

Against Juniata, Cao led with nine kills while Beaudoin added seven. Yan dished out 20 assists. Reichard led the tea with 16 digs, as Chen had 12 and Lai 11.

The Tartans will host the University of Mary Washington on Friday, October 29 at 7:00 p.m. in Wiegand Gymnasium at the Cohon University Center.
