Tartans Land Five on All-UAA Volleyball Squad

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Five Carnegie Mellon University volleyball players were named to the All-University Athletic Association (UAA) team when the squads were announced Wednesday. Senior opposite Vivian Beaudoin (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills), junior setter Stella Yan (Coppell, Texas/Coppell) and sophomore middle blocker Jane Dean (Wilmette, Ill. / New Trier) were named to the second team while senior outside hitter Anna Cao (Princeton, N.J. / Princeton) and freshman libero Abby Chen (Fairfax, Va. / Oakton) garnered honorable mention honors.

This marks Beaudoin's second All-UAA honor as she was named to the second team following the 2019 season. The senior led the team with 289 kills, 2.78 kills per game, and had a .251 hitting percentage. She totaled 70 blocks and 59 block assists, which ranked second best on the Tartans. She has recorded 13 double-digit kill matches with five coming in UAA play and a career-best 22 against then nationally 5th-ranked Emory.

Yan led the Tartans with 816 assists which ranked second in the UAA along with her average of 9.17 assists per set. The junior recorded a career-best 50 assists against Wesleyan University and became the 10th Tartan to reach 1,000 assists for her career this season. She has 1,303 for her career. Yan also ranked third on the Tartans with 273 digs.

Dean led the team with 85 total blocks, 66 block assists and 19 solo and ranked third in the UAA in solos and fifth in total and assists. The sophomore recorded a career-high 10 total blocks and eight assists against Brandeis to open UAA play. Dean ranked fourth on the team with 202 kills and recorded double-digit kills in nine matches this season including a career-best 20 against Case Western Reserve.

Cao totaled 206 kills, which ranked third on the Tartans while she ranked second on the team averaging 2.75 kills per set. She had double-digit kills in 11 matches this season, including career-best 20 against Susquehanna. Five of her double-digit kill matches came in UAA play.

Chen led the Tartans with 468 digs and 4.29 digs per set which ranked third in the UAA in both categories. Her 46 service aces were tops on the team and ranked second in the UAA. The first-year has recorded double-digit digs in 24 of 28 matches played this season, including a season-high 24 against Mount Union. In the Tartans win over then ranked 10th and unbeaten NYU, Chen recorded a career-best five aces.
