Tartans Split Action at UAA Round Robin #2

(CLEVELAND, Ohio) - The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team continued University Athletic Association (UAA) action on Sunday, October 12 with two matches at Case Western Reserve University. They opened the day with a 3-0 victory against the University of Rochester before falling 3-1 to 10th-ranked Washington University in St. Louis. The Tartans are now 17=6 for the year and 3-2 in the UAA.

Inside the Box Score vs. Rochester

  • The Tartans won by set scores of 25-23, 25-19, and 25-11 and hit better than .340 in each set for a final hitting percentage of .357.
  • The Tartans combined for 11 total blocks with seniors Julianna McFarland and Elizabeth Schlemmer each collecting three block assists.
  • Schlemmer led the attack with 11 kills while hitting .450.
  • Junior Neha Tummala collected 20 assists.
  • Senior Katherine Jackson had nine kills and seven digs while junior Zoe Gavros led with 11 digs.

  • The Tartans won set two by a 25-22 score after falling in set one 25-20. The final two set scores were 25-16 and 25-17 in WashU's favor.
  • WashU hit .217 for the match while the Tartans hit .086.
  • McFarland had another three block assists for the day and had 11 kills to lead the offense.
  • Gavros, junior Kate Giang, and Jackson each had double-digit digs with 20, 18, and 15, respectively.
  • Tummala led the 16 assists while freshman Dani Lee had eight and freshman Melissa Jin had seven.
  • Giang was second on the team in kills with nine.
