Schnepf Leads Tartans at UAA Championships

(WALTHAM, Mass.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's cross country team placed seventh at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Women's Cross Country Championships on Saturday, October 31 hosted at Franklin Park by Brandeis University. Washington University won the race with five runners finishing in the top 15.

Senior Rekha Schnepf (McLean, Va./Thomas Jefferson HS for Sci. & Tech) led the women with a sixth-place finish in a time of 22:17 to earn All-UAA First Team honors. Sophomore Aparna Alavilli (Hanover, N.H./Hanover) was next to cross the 6k-course finish line when she did so in 22:59 for 24th place.

Following Alavilli was senior Taylor Maggiacomo (Temecula, Calif./Great Oak) in 31st place in 23:08. Behind Maggiacomo was senior Erin Persson (San Antonio, Texas/Saint Mary's Hall) in 23:11 for 36th place and senior Haley Bryant (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) in 23:35 for 51st place.

Finishing sixth for the Tartans was sophomore Rhiannon Farney (Winston Salem, N.C./Mount Tabor) in 24:00 while senior Kira Ragazzo (Frederick, Md./Urbana) crossed seventh for the Tartans in 24:15.

Next up for the Tartans is the Mideast Regional hosted by Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, November 14 at 12:00 p.m.
