Tartans Start Season at Duquesne Duals

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's cross country team started the 2016 season at the Duquesne Duals in Schenley Park on Saturday, September 3. With the dual scoring, Carnegie Mellon defeated Cleveland State University and Youngstown State University.

Junior Aparna Alavilli (Hanover, N.H./Hanover) led the Tartans against a field of Division I runners, placing 15th overall in a time of 19:19.9 along the 5K course. Finishing second for the Tartans was freshman Kate Reilly (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Prep) in a time of 20:19.6.

Graduate student Priya Patel (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) crossed the finish line in 20:34.1 and placed 49th overall and third for the Tartans. Behind Patel was freshman Emmalyn Lindsey (Eugene, Ore./South Eugene) in 20:50.1 and graduate student Shaheen Essabhoy (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) in 20:58.7.

The sixth Tartan to finish the race was freshman Rachel Reolfi (North Canton, Ohio/Canton Central Catholic) in a time of 21:05.3 and a place of 59th overall. Freshman Valerie Collins (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) recorded a time of 21:18.6 and finished 63rd overall in her first collegiate race.

The Tartans will next race at the Saint Vincent Invitational in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, September 17. The race is set to start at 10:45 a.m.
