Tartans Race to Seventh Place at Rowan Inter-Regional

(GLASSBORO, N.J.) -  The Carnegie Mellon University women's cross-country team ran to a seventh-place finish at the Rowan University Inter-Regional Invitational on Saturday in Glassboro, New Jersey. With 228 points the women finished just six points behind sixth place finisher Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and eight points behind fifth place finisher St. Lawrence University.

Junior Abigail Levine (Bethesda, Md. / Bethesda Chevy Chase) and sophomore Parvathi Meyyappan (Cupertino, Calif. / Monta Vista) led the Tartans in the interregional race, finishing 19th and 22nd overall in times of 22:03 and 22:08. "I think we worked better as a whole today than we have in the past," said Meyyappan, "but we still have a lot of improvements to make going into championship races."

Junior Kate Reilly (Scranton, Pa. / Scranton Prep) was third for the Tartans placing 47th overall in 22:41. Fellow junior Emmalyn Lindsey (Eugene, Ore. / South Eugene) followed in 72nd in a time of 23:05.

Finishing within the same second, junior Valerie Collins (Wellesley, Mass. / Wellesley) and freshman Kristen Seballos (Cleveland, Ohio / Padua Franciscan) worked together towards 78th and 79th place finishes in times of 23:10.2 and 23:10.4, respectively. Sophomore Isabelle Chickanosky (St. Louis, Mo. / St. Joseph's Academy) closed out the Tartans' top seven in 95th place in a time of 23:19.

The Tartans will next compete at the University Athletic Association Championships hosted by the University of Chicago in Kenosha, Wisconsin, on Sunday, October 28th.
