Levine Places Second at Season Opener

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon women's cross country team kicked off the season with its opener at the 2019 Duquesne Duals Invitational at Shenley Park on Saturday morning. The women finished second overall on the 5k course competing against Division I teams Duquesne University and Youngstown State University.

Senior Abigail Levine (Bethesda, Md. / Bethesda Chevy Chase) led the Tartans placing second against the field of Division I runners. Levine covered the 5k course in a time of 18:44.06.

"Today was exciting getting to see everyone compete after a long summer of training, and we definitely have a good starting point to work from. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone improve over the next few months," said Levine

Senior Kate Reilly (Scranton, Pa. / Scranton Prep) finished seventh overall in a time of 19:13. Senior Wade Lacey (Albany, N.Y. / The Albany Academies) took ninth place overall in a time of 19:30. Junior Parvathi Meyyappan (Cupertino, Calif. / Monta Vista) followed Lacey with an 11th place finish in a time of 19:43.

Sophomore Kristen Seballos (Cleveland, Ohio / Padua Franciscan) placed 12th overall just behind Meyyappan in 19:50. Senior Valerie Collins (Wellesley, Mass. / Wellesley) was sixth for the Tartans finishing 14th overall in a time of 20:05.

Freshman Joyce Zhang (Ellicott City, Md. / Centennial High School) made her collegiate debut at the season opener finishing seventh for the Cardinal and Gray and 17th overall with a time of 20:30.

The Tartans will compete next on September 14th at the Allegheny Invitational which will be held in Meadville, Pennsylvania.
