Tartans Compete in Brown Race at Paul Short Invitational

(BETHLEHEM, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's cross country team placed 22nd overall at the Lehigh University Paul Short Invitational this Saturday, October 5th. The women raced against 42 teams in the brown race in a field of Division I, II and III runners.

Leading the Tartans, senior Abigail Levine (Bethesda, Md. / Bethesda Chevy Chase) took 20th place in a time of 21:46, improving upon her previous time on the course by just under a minute. Fellow senior Valerie Collins (Wellesley, Mass. / Wellesley) was second for the Tartans, placing 120th overall in a time of 22:49. 

Senior Wade Lacey (Albany, N.Y. / The Albany Academies) was third for the Tartans and third overall in a time of 22:53. Sophomore Kristen Seballos (Cleveland, Ohio / Padua Franciscan) crossed the finish in fourth for the Cardinal and Gray in a time of 22:59 placing 156th overall.

Junior Parvathi Meyyappan (Cupertino, Calif. / Monta Vista) was fifth for the Tartans, and crossed the line in 23:01. In the first 6k of her collegiate career, freshman Joyce Zhang (Ellicott City, Md. / Centennial High School) was sixth for the Tartans and 187th overall in a time of 23:15. "It was all very exciting because the weather was perfect and the course was in good condition. Although it was my first 6k, it was a great course and went by quickly," said Zhang. 

Senior Kate Reilly (Scranton, Pa. / Scranton Prep) closed out the Tartans' top seven in a time of 23:28. 

The Tartans will compete again on their home course at the Carnegie Mellon Hampton Inn Pittsburgh – University/Medical Center Invitational in Schenley Park on Saturday, October 12th.
