Tartans Place Second at CMU Hampton Inn Pittsburgh – University/Medical Center Invitational

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's cross country team placed second at its home Hampton Inn Pittsburgh – University/Medical Center Invitational in Schenley Park this Saturday. The women defeated all Division III teams on the 5k course finishing behind Duquesne University.

Senior Emmalyn Lindsey (Eugene, Ore. / South Eugene) led the Tartans with an 11th-place finish in 19:51. This meet marks Lindsey's second race back from injury. Lindsey said, "It's been hard coming back from injury but today I felt strong and like I was really racing again. Also the women's team as a whole competed very well." Just one second behind Lindsey, sophomore Taylor Jacobs (Bozeman, Mont. / The Taft School) finished in 12th place in a time of 19:52.

Junior Isabelle Chickanosky (St. Louis, Mo. / St. Joseph's Academy), in her first race of the season, finished third for the Tartans and 21st overall in 20:07. Freshman Kavya Tummalapalli (Plainsboro, NJ / West Windsor-Plainsboro High School) finished fourth for the Cardinal and Gray in 20:22.

Sophomore Tanvi Bhargava (Cupertino, Calif. / The International School Bangalore) finished fifth for the Tartans and 34th overall in 20:42. Freshman Mona Yuan (Sayreville, NJ / Middlesex County Academy for Allied Health and Biomedical Sciences) was sixth for the women's team and 45th overall in 20:58.

Junior Rachel Jones (Chicago, Ill. / Jones College Prep) closed out the Tartans top seven, finishing 56th overall in a time of 21:14.

The Tartans will race again next Saturday, October 19, at the Rowan Inter-Regional Invitational in Glassboro, New Jersey.
