Tartan Women Finish Third at Mideast Regional Championship

(BETHLEHEM, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's cross country team ran to a third-place finish at the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships hosted at Lehigh University this Saturday. Following two top-five nationally ranked teams, Johns Hopkins University and Dickinson College, the women finished with 138 points, 50 points behind topped ranked Johns Hopkins and 40 points behind fifth-ranked Dickinson College.

Senior Kate Reilly (Scranton, Pa. / Scranton Prep) led the Tartans. Reilly finished thirteenth overall in a time of 22:10. Fellow senior Abigail Levine (Bethesda, Md. / Bethesda Chevy Chase) was second for the Tartans finishing 17th overall just 10 seconds behind Reilly in 22:20.

Sophomore Kristen Seballos (Cleveland, Ohio / Padua Franciscan) finished third for the Tartans in 33rd place in a time of 22:41. Freshman Joyce Zhang (Ellicott City, Md. / Centennial High School), who was fourth for the Tartans, finished just one place behind Seballos running to a 34th-place finish in a time of 24:36. Reilly, Levine, Seballos and Zhang were all named to the Mideast All-Region team, placing in the top 35 of the race.

Finishing in 42nd place with a time of 22:53, senior Valerie Collins (Wellesley, Mass. / Wellesley) rounded out the Tartans' top five runners. "I'm really excited we were all able to do really well all at once today," said Collins. "If we get the at large bid tomorrow, this will mark the longest national's attendance streak in CMU women's cross-country history."

Sophomore Taylor Jacobs (Bozeman, Mont. / The Taft School) finished sixth for the Tartans and 51st overall in a time of 23:01.Senior Wade Lacey (Albany, N.Y., The Albany Academies) placed 83rd overall in a time of 23:29.

Results of the USTFCCCA at-large team bid decisions will determine if the women's team will compete at the NCAA Championships next weekend. The 2019 DIII NCAA Championships will be hosted in Louisville, Kentuck at "Tom" Sawyer State Park on Saturday, November 23.
