Paul Hamerly earned his Bachelor of Science degree in management science and math from Carnegie Mellon in 1977 while playing for the men's basketball team. Two years later he finished his MBA in Industrial Administration at Carnegie Mellon. During that time, Hamerly played professional basketball in Liege, Belgium, in 1977 and 1978. In 2014, Hamerly became a certified professional coach at The Gestalt Institute of Cleveland.

Hamerly has enjoyed a corporate career in packaged goods as a branded marketer on seven businesses from entry level to the role of Vice President at companies such as Nestle, H.J. Heinz (including Weight Watchers), and Beecham Products. As an entrepreneur, Hamerly founded Kitchen Basics Inc. in the basement of his house in 1996, rolling it out to 16,000 supermarkets nationally before selling to McCormick in 2011. He also started Novus Energy in 2014, a company seeking to improve gasoline engine performance with reduced emissions. It's early success resulted in 22% efficiency gain.

Hamerly also spends time as a mentor and coach where he presently coaches several entrepreneurs and young career starters. In 2018, Hamerly mentored an oral cancer detection technology team from Case Western Reserve University during participation in the ICorps MedTech program at Ohio State University. He has mentored nine entrepreneurial teams on the five day "Start-Up Bus" competition which went from Akron to New Orleans in 2017 and from Detroit to New Orleans in 2018.

As an investor, Hamerly is a member of the screening committee and conducts due diligence for two angel investment groups: Cleveland, Ohio based North Coast Angel Fund (the fifth largest in the U.S.) and Canton, Ohio based Impact Angel Group.

Hamerly resides in Peninsula, Ohio on the Erie Canal in a log home in Cuyahoga Valley National Park. He has three adult children, 26, 23, and 18. As a former athlete for the Tartans, Hamerly continues his athletic endeavors by biking, swimming, and playing basketball.
