Student-Athlete Advisory Council Hosted a Moonlight Run for the Cure4Cam Childhood Cancer Foundation
The Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) hosted a Moonlight Run to benefit the Cure4Cam Childhood Cancer Foundation on Saturday, September 26. The foundation seeks to raise community awareness concerning, and supports the development of, new and more humane therapies for childhood cancer.
“I am personally very involved with this foundation and it was such an honor to be able to bring Cure4Cam to Pittsburgh,” said junior swimmer and organizer of the project, Allison Kirkby. “I had so much fun planning the event and hope it keeps growing.”
The event was either a 5k run or a 2k walk, or any variation, throughout campus. The turnout for the first Moonlight Run on a college campus was a success with 45 registered participants and 20 student-athlete volunteers. Each participant was given glow sticks and other bright and light-up items that were donated. Runners also were able to purchase shirts for the run. The runners lit through campus wearing light-up leis, bracelets, and more.
“I am really proud of myself, SAAC, and my two organizing partners, Kim Hochstedler and Dustin Ferzacca, for pulling this off,” added Kirkby.
