Student-Athlete Advisory Council Reaches 100% Giving for Fourth Year

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – In what has become a tradition for Carnegie Mellon University’s Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC), the group has once again made a statement by investing in their own experience, as the leadership committee reached 100 percent giving to the University for the fourth straight year. Each of the Council’s 47 members made a gift to support the athletics department.

"As an athlete at Carnegie Mellon, we are given so many valuable opportunities through athletics and it is very important for us to give back and invest in the athletics department that supports us throughout our time at here,” said women’s tennis senior Cori Sidell.

This initiative started four years ago and has continued to be a priority for the students in SAAC.

“Being a part of SAAC we are able to make big impacts in the lives of student-athletes at CMU and the consecutive years of 100% SAAC giving shows how dedicated we are as a group,” continued Sidell, the SAAC chair of community service. “As SAAC representatives, we strive to set the example for the rest of the student-athlete community."

Philanthropic support has a major influence on the student-athlete experience at Carnegie Mellon. Last year, contributions from donors allowed the athletics department to transition a space into a varsity athlete lounge. The generosity of students, alumni, parents and friends has also allowed the department to increase staffing in strategic areas.

“Our Student-Athlete Advisory Council representatives are leaders among leaders, and working directly with them is quite a privilege,” said Director of Athletics Josh Centor. “They inspire me with their passion for this university, and the commitment they have to their own experience. I am truly proud of all that they do, and the way they represent Carnegie Mellon.”
