CMU Athletics COVID-19 Update; Spring Sports Cancelled

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – As the outbreak of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) continues to develop, Carnegie Mellon University and the Department of Athletics have developed the following policies to help ensure the health and well-being of our constituents.

Intercollegiate Athletics

  • Effective immediately, all spring intercollegiate competition and activities are canceled for the spring 2020 season.
  • Per the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) statement released March 12, 2020, NCAA Winter and Spring Championships have been cancelled.
  • Per the University Athletic Association (UAA) statement released March 13, 2020, All UAA Spring 2020 Regular Season and Championship Competition have been cancelled.
  • Leadership programs and the Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) Field Day have been cancelled.

Facilities, Recreation and Activities

  • Skibo Gym and Wiegand Gym will be closed for recreation and equipment will not be available for check-out. Access to the spaces will be restricted.
  • The Cohon University Center and Tepper School fitness centers, as well as the Cohon University Center pool, will be closed until further notice. The varsity weight room will also be closed. This follows guidance from the Allegheny County Health Department.
  • In person Group X and personal training are suspended until further notice. Virtual offerings are available.
  • Intramural programming and club sport activities are cancelled for spring 2020.
  • Kiltie Band rehearsals and performances have been suspended.
