Carnegie Mellon University Athletics Department to Host Virtual End-of-Year Banquet

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University Athletics Department will host its annual awards banquet virtually on Wednesday, April 29 at 5:00 PM. Virtual doors will open at 4:45 PM.

The banquet will honor athletic and academic achievements from the 2019-20 year, including the presentation of 23 awards across the program’s 19 varsity sports. In addition to appearances by the head coaches of each team, comments will be heard from Director of Athletics Josh Centor, former Vice President for Campus Affairs Dr. Michael Murphy, and Faculty Athletics Representative Dr. Susan Polansky. Festivities will conclude with the presentation of the 2019-20 athletics highlight video.

“It was a remarkable year in athletics at Carnegie Mellon, perhaps the best we have ever had,” Centor said. “These are uncertain and challenging times, and it is important to take time to come together how we are able, and to celebrate the many accomplishments of our students.”

Some highlights from the 2019-20 season include the women’s soccer program reaching the Final Four, women’s golf achieving a No. 1 ranking in the national poll as well as the top statistical ranking by Golfstat and men’s golf, men’s cross country and women’s tennis all receiving rankings among the top five in the nation. Twenty-four swimmers and divers qualified for nationals, five men’s and women’s track and field athletes qualified for the indoor national meet and the football program boasted the only Division III finalist in the country for the prestigious William V. Campbell Trophy.

The event will be streamed utilizing Zoom video conference service to those in attendance. The athletics department will additionally provide exclusive content throughout the event via Twitter and Instagram.
