Lohmeier Named CoSIDA Academic All-America

(AUSTIN, Texas) – Sophomore defensive lineman Michael Lohmeier (Clarendon Hills, Ill./Hinsdale Central) of the Carnegie Mellon University football team was named to the 2017 Academic All-America Division III Football team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Wednesday, December 13. Lohmeier was named to the second team and is one of four sophomores selected of the 42 student-athletes to the first or second team. He is also one of five student-athletes maintaining a perfect 4.00 GPA.

The business administration major earned All-University Athletic Association (UAA) First Team honors and All-Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) honorable mention accolades. Lohmeier led the team with 6.0 sacks and 9.0 tackles for a loss. His 6.0 sacks ranked second in the UAA and seventh in the PAC. The sophomore also recorded three forced fumbles to lead the Tartans.

Lohmeier is a market research analyst for Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation. He is an undergraduate analyst intern for Scottie Ventures and a member of Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity where he serves as the philanthropy chair. He is also a PAC honor roll and UAA All-Academic honoree.

Lohmeier's appearance on the squad marks the 12th year out of the last 13 Carnegie Mellon football has had at least one member named Academic All-America. During the 13-year stretch, 27 Tartans have been honored while Carnegie Mellon football ranks first among Division III institutions with 52 total CoSIDA Academic All-Americans.
