Robert Coury and Tre Vasiliadis Earn D3football.com Preseason All-America Honors

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Junior inside linebacker Robert Coury (Phillipsburg N.J./Phillipsburg) and junior running back Tre Vasiliadis (Great Falls, Va./Langley) of the Carnegie Mellon University football team were both named to the 2022 D3football.com Preseason All-America Team. Coury landed a spot on the second team with Vasiliadis honored on the third team. Coury and Vasiliadis are two of the three Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) players named to the D3football.com Preseason All-America Team.

Vasiliadis was honored at the conclusion of the 2021 season, as a fourth team D3football.com All-America. Coury joined Vasiliadis on the D3football.com All-Region team while both were a first team All-PAC selection.

Coury headed a Tartan defense in 2021 that led the PAC in scoring defense and ranked second in the nation allowing 8.7 points per game. The Cardinal and Gray also led the league in total defense giving up 246.7 yards per contest, forced a league-best 31 turnovers and led the PAC with 35 sacks. For the second straight season, Coury led the team in tackles (82) and recorded 10 tackles for a loss, which also led the team, and ranked second with 4.5 sacks. His 82 tackles ranked third in the PAC while ranking in the top 10 in tackles for a loss and sacks. He also had six passes defended, forced a fumble, and recovered a fumble.

In 2021, Vasiliadis led the PAC with 1,120 rushing yards and a 112.0 rushing yards per game average, which ranked 19th and 23rd, respectively, in Division III. His 16 rushing touchdowns and 102 points scored ranked second in the league and 13th nationally. He became the fifth player in Carnegie Mellon to rush for 1,000 yards in a season. In the Tartans' win at Geneva College he rushed for a career-best 268 yards, which ranks second most in a single-game for a Tartan.

Carnegie Mellon will open its 2022 season on Friday, September 2, when Whitworth University travels to Pittsburgh from Spokane, Washington, for a 7:00 p.m. kick at Gesling Stadium.
