Hughes Named PAC Offensive Player of the Week

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Carnegie Mellon University senior wide receiver Kris Hughes (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) was named Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Offensive Player of the Week. Hughes receives the honor following his play Friday in the Tartans' 35-17 win over Whitworth University.

Hughes had six catches for a career-high 190 yards and two touchdowns in the win. With just over six minutes remaining in the first half he hauled in a Ben Mills pass that went for a 99-yard touchdown. The scoring reception set a new school record and tied the longest passing play in PAC history (Sept. 20, 1975: John Carroll's John Wicinski to Donnell Lipford against Bethany). Hughes opened the scoring with a 18-yard touchdown catch with under 13 minutes to play in the second quarter. He moved into second place in program history in touchdown receptions (22) and needs three more to move into a tie for first with John Prather (2014-17).

Carnegie Mellon returns to the gridiron on Saturday, September 10 with a 1:00 p.m. kick at #22 RPI in Troy, New York.
