Thomas Coury Named PAC Special Teams Player of the Week

(GREENVILLE, Pa.) – Carnegie Mellon University junior Thomas Coury (Phillipsburg, N.J. / Phillipsburg) was named Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Special Teams Player of the Week following his play Saturday in the Tartans' 35-6 win at Thiel College.

Coury turned in great special teams' play in the road win at Alumni Stadium at Stoeber Field Saturday afternoon in Greenville. He blocked a late first quarter punt that was returned for a touchdown by Kevin Cooke, giving the Tartans a 7-0 advantage. The junior also made a stop on the Tomcats' two-point try early in the fourth quarter. Coury finished with six tackles, four solo. He led a run defense that held Thiel to -13 yards on the ground, the second-lowest rushing outcome allowed by a Tartan defense in program history.

Carnegie Mellon, ranked 18th in the latest D3football.com poll, returns home to play Westminster College on Saturday, October 1 at Gesling Stadium. Kick is set for 7:00 p.m.
