Men’s Basketball Earns Team Academic Honors by NABC; Three Individuals Honored

The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team was recognized by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) when the committee on academics announced the inaugural Team Academic Excellence Awards for 2012-13. Besides the team being honored, three members were selected to the NABC Honors Court, recognizing those collegiate basketball student-athletes who excelled in academics during the 2012-13 season.

The Carnegie Mellon University men’s basketball team had two players named to the All-University Athletic Association (UAA) Men’s Basketball Team by the league’s coaches when the Association announced its postseason All-Star teams Wednesday, February 27. Junior Asad Meghani (Dallas, Texas/The Greenhill School) found a spot on the Association’s second team while junior Rob Mohen (Stamford, Conn./Regis (NY)) received honorable mention status.

The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team closed the season with a dramatic 80-76 overtime win over rival Case Western Reserve University on Saturday, February 23 behind a career-high 26 points from senior Andre Moore (Bowie, Md./Archbishop Spalding). The Tartans finish the year with a 6-19 record and 3-11 mark in University Athletic Association play while the Spartans finish at 12-13 and 5-9.

The Tartans played the nationally ranked Yellowjackets wire-to-wire before dropping an 81-77 decision. Carnegie Mellon is now 5-18, 2-10 while Rochester moves to 21-2, 10-2.

A hot shooting performance by the Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team in which they hit a season-high 11 three-pointers fell short against University Athletic Association (UAA) rival University of Rochester on Friday night in Skibo Gymnasium. The #2 Yellowjackets used a 14-2 run to start the second half to regain the lead and went on for the nine-point, 72-63, win to remain undefeated on the season at 15-0 and 4-0 in UAA play. The Tartans now sit at 3-12 and 0-4.
