Mohen's Career Night Leads Tartans Past Gators on the Road

(MEADVILLE, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team recorded its first victory of the season, as they traveled to Meadville, Pa. and defeated the Gators of Allegheny College 57-53.  Behind junior Rob Mohen's (Stamford, Conn./Regis (NY)) career night, the Tartans improved to 1-2 overall while the Gators dropped their first of the season moving to 2-1.

Carnegie Mellon opened the game on a 12-2 run over the first 4:26 of play as senior Andre Moore (Bowie, Md./Archbishop Spalding) scored the first eight points for the visitor's.  Allegheny scored the next nine points to pull within one at 12-11 before taking its first lead (18-16) on a put back layup by Marco Corona.  Corona's go ahead bucket came in the midst of a Gator 13-0 run that pushed their lead to 26-16 with 3:49 to play in the half.

The Tartans cut the lead in half before the break as junior Asad Meghani (Dallas, Texas/The Greenhill School) drained a trey and Mohen scored a bucket making the score 26-21.

Meghani scored the first five points of the second to extend Carnegie Mellon's run to 10 straight points and knotted the score at 26-26.  After a made jumper by Allegheny, Moore connected on another long ball giving the Tartans their first lead since the midway point of the first half at 29-28 with 16 minutes to play.

The Gators then used a 12-4 run to reclaim the lead 40-33 with 10 minutes to play.  The Tartans did not go away as they chipped into the lead.  Mohen tied the score at 46-46 at the 3:16 mark and on the Tartans next possession down the court the junior converted the traditional three-point play to give Carnegie Mellon the lead 49-46, one they never surrendered. Meghani made sure of it by draining a three-pointer the next trip down the court for the Tartans.

Moore also played a part in sealing the victory for the Tartans as he converted all four of his foul shots in the closing minute, as the Tartans held on for the 57-53 victory.

Moore led all scorers with 20 points and dished out a career-high four assists. The senior also tied a career-high with seven rebounds.
