Meghani Scores Career-High 22 at Emory

(ATLANTA, Ga.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team traveled to Atlanta, Ga. to play the Eagles of Emory University in a University Athletic Association (UAA) contest and dropped an 84-61 contest. The loss puts the Tartans record at 5-19, 2-11 while the Eagles move to 17-6, 9-4.

Emory started the game on a 9-0 run over the first four-and-a-half minutes and extended its lead to 17-3 two minutes later.  The Eagles continued to control the first half and matched its largest lead of the game of 19 (44-25) with less than a minute to play before Carnegie Mellon scored the final four points of the half to trail 44-29 at the break.

The Tartans were led by junior Asad Meghani's (Dallas, Texas/The Greenhill School) 11 first half points as he connected on 3-of-4 from behind the arc. Emory used nine offensive rebounds to score 13 first half second chance points.  

The Eagles used a 9-0 scamper midway through the second half to claim the largest lead of the game at 69-45, but Meghani connected on a pair of treys and a jumper in the lane to cut the Emory lead to 73-55.  That is close as the Tartans pulled as the Eagles went on for an 84-61 victory. For the game, Emory shot 50% from the floor to Carnegie Mellon's 38%.

Meghani led the Tartans with a career-high 22 points after converting 6-of-9 from long range.  Junior Rob Mohen (Stamford, Conn./Regis (NY)) finished the game with 10 points as sophomore Kevin Stursberg (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Jacksonville Episcopal) also recorded a career-best seven points while tying a career-high with two blocks.

Alex Greven led a trio of Eagles in double figures with a game-high 26 points. Jake Davis finished with 15 points and Michael Florin had 10.

Carnegie Mellon will conclude its season on Saturday, February 23 when they head to Cleveland, Ohio to play Case Western Reserve University at 5:00 p.m.
