Men’s Basketball Earns Team Academic Honors by NABC; Seven Individuals Honored

The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team was recognized for the second straight year by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) when the committee on academics announced the second annual Team Academic Excellence Awards for 2013-14. Besides the team being honored, seven members were selected to the NABC Honors Court, recognizing those collegiate basketball student-athletes who excelled in academics during the 2013-14 season.

The Carnegie Mellon University men’s basketball team traveled to St. Louis, Mo. on Sunday, February 23 and dropped an 83-79 heartbreaker to the third-ranked Bears of Washington University in University Athletic Association (UAA) play after leading most of the second half. Carnegie Mellon moves to 11-13, 4-9 while Washington is now 22-2 and remains perfect in UAA play at 13-0.

The Carnegie Mellon University men’s basketball team was in University Athletic Association (UAA) action on Friday, February 21 at the University of Chicago. The Maroons downed the Tartans, 79-77, with a three-point bucket by Royce Muskeyvalley with 1.9 seconds remaining. It was the second time this season that Muskeyvalley hit the winner against the Tartans in the closing seconds. The Tartans are now 11-12, 4-8 while the Maroons move to 14-9, 7-5

Carnegie Mellon University senior Christian Manoli (San Rafael, Calif./Terra Linda) was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week for his performance this past weekend. The Tartans turned in two road victories with the first, a 95-83 victory, at Emory Friday night before topping Rochester Sunday afternoon, 76-70.
