Tartans Drop Road Contest to No. 12 Emory

(ATLANTA, Ga.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team traveled to University Athletic Association (UAA) opponent Emory University for a Sunday matinee, falling 79-53. The Tartans fall to 10-6, 1-4 while the No. 12 Eagles jump to 13-3, 3-2.

A Seth Cordts (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) fastbreak layup made the score 13-7 in favor of the Eagles at the 12-minute mark but that was the last field goal of the half for the Tartans. The Eagles went on a 29-0 run over seven minutes, scoring 10 points off turnovers, as the Tartans missed six shots from the field.

Early in the run, Emory was 6-of-7 from the field which stretched the four-point lead to 21 before the home team took a 43-11 lead into the locker room.

Sophomre Jack Serbin (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany), who was scoreless in the first half, opened the second half with a three-pointer and went on to lead the Tartans with 13 points. He also grabbed 10 rebounds for his second straight and ninth double-double of the season.

Cordts finished the game with 12 points while freshman Thomas Cook (Gwynn Oak, Md./Carver Arts & Tech.) scored nine points off the bench for the Cardinal and Gray.

The Tartans schedule doesn't get any easier as they stay on the road for their next action when they visit No. 4 Washington University in St. Louis on Friday, January 30 at 8:00 p.m.
