Men’s Basketball Earns Team Academic Honors by NABC; Five Individuals Honored

For the fifth consecutive year, the Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team was recognized by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) when the committee on academics announced the annual Team Academic Excellence Awards for 2016-17. Besides the team being honored, five members were selected to the NABC Honors Court, recognizing those collegiate basketball student-athletes who excelled in academics during the 2016-17 season.

Four Set to Join Tartans for 2017-18 Season

The Carnegie Mellon University men’s basketball team will welcome four newcomers for the 2017-18 season. The Tartans return 11 players from a team that qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship and finished in the top half of the ultra-competitive University Athletic Association (UAA) Conference. The four newcomers hail from New Jersey, Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Senior Jack Serbin (New Albany, Ohio) of the Carnegie Mellon University men’s basketball team was named to the D3hoops.com Great Lakes All-Region Second Team on Monday, March 13. This is the first time Serbin has received postseason accolades from D3hoops.com. It does mark Serbin’s fourth postseason accolade this season, as he was named first team All-University Athletic Association (UAA), CoSIDA Academic All-America and ECAC South All-Star.

Carnegie Mellon University senior Jack Serbin (New Albany, Ohio) was named to the ECAC Division III Men's South Basketball All-Star First Team on Tuesday marking his second straight season appearing on the top team. It is the senior’s third straight year being honored by the ECAC, as was named to the second team following his sophomore campaign. The postseason honor is the third for Serbin as he was named first team All-University Athletic Association (UAA) and CoSIDA Academic All-America.

The Carnegie Mellon University men’s basketball team competed in the quarterfinals of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Men's Basketball Championship presented by Visit Myrtle Beach on Friday, March 3 against the Stockton University Ospreys. The Tartans dropped an 84-74 decision to Stockton game at the Junker Center on the campus of Penn State Behrend who is serving as host for the tournament.

For the third straight season, Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball senior Jack Serbin (New Albany, Ohio) was named to the Academic All-America Division III Men's Basketball team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). On Tuesday, February 28, Serbin found a spot on the 2017 first team after being named to the second team a year ago and third team following his sophomore campaign.

The Carnegie Mellon University men’s basketball team with a record of 14-11 has been selected as the fourth-seed in the field of the 2017 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Men's Basketball Championship presented by Visit Myrtle Beach. This marks the Tartans first postseason appearance since playing in the NCAA Tournament in 2009. The weekend finals, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, will be hosted by Penn State Behrend in Erie, Pennsylvania.

A 23-12 game-closing run by the Carnegie Mellon University men’s basketball team led the Tartans to a 79-69 victory at Case Western Reserve University on Saturday evening to finish out the University Athletic Association (UAA) season. Senior Jack Serbin (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) led the Tartans, now 14-11 and 8-6, with 28 points and 19 rebounds. The Spartans finish the year at 8-17 and 3-11.

For the third consecutive season, Carnegie Mellon University senior Jack Serbin (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Men's Basketball Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Serbin is one of five players on the District 4 team. To be nominated for the award, a student-athlete must be a starter or significant reserve and maintain a GPA of 3.3 or better.

For the third time this season, Carnegie Mellon University men’s basketball senior Jack Serbin (New Albany, Ohio) was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week following his performance this past weekend. Serbin led the Tartans to a 1-1 road mark with an 85-83 thrilling overtime victory at the University of Chicago on Sunday.
