Henry’s Career Day Leads Men’s Basketball to 89-66 Win Over Brockport

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - Sophomore Seth Henry's (Fulton, Md./Reservoir) first career double-double led the Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team to an 89-66 victory over the visiting Golden Eagles of The College at Brockport Monday, January 2. Henry finished the game with career highs of 14 points, 12 rebounds and nine assist, as the Tartans improve to 6-5 while Brockport is now 8-2.

Henry was one of three Tartans to crack the double figure barrier, as junior Ryan Maha (West Mifflin, Pa.) led with a season-high 24 points on 6-of-10 shooting from behind the arc. Senior Chris Shkil (Mentor, Ohio/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) collected his third double-double this season after scoring 18 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Freshman Zach Howarth (Freehold, N.J./St. John Vianney) handed out a season-best five assists in the win.

For the second time in three games, Carnegie Mellon shot over 50% from the floor, shooting 53.2% while Brockport shot 39.4%. The 53.2% is a season-best for the Tartans, as the program has won 50 of the last 61 contests when shooting better than 50% from the floor. The home team dominated the boards hauling down 54 to the Golden Eagles 26. It marked the 10th game this season the Tartans outrebounded their opponent.  

The Golden Eagles were led by Devonn Gavin who finished with a game-high 25 points.

With the Tartans trailing 17-16, Carnegie Mellon held the Golden Eagles to without a field goal over a nine-minute stretch. During the drought, the Tartans used a 19-1 run to claim its largest lead of the frame at 35-18 with 3:27 to play. The Tartans maintained the double figure lead the rest of the half and led 42-28 at the break.

Brockport scored six of the first eight points of the second half to cut the home team's advantage to 10 points at 44-34, but Carnegie Mellon then used a 13-2 run over the next four minutes. The run ended with a long ball from Maha with 13:36 to play which made the score 57-36. The Tartans led by as many as 32 points the rest of the way and by no less than 19 points the rest of the game.

Carnegie Mellon will begin University Athletic Association (UAA) play on Saturday, January 7 with a 5:00 p.m. tip against the Spartans of Case Western Reserve University on the hardwood of Skibo Gymnasium.
