Men’s Basketball Earns Team Academic Honors by NABC; Three Individuals Honored

(KANSAS CITY, Mo.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team was recognized by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) when the committee on academics announced the annual Team Academic Excellence Awards for 2017-18. This marks the sixth consecutive year the Tartans have been honored as a team. Besides the team being hon-ored, three members were selected to the NABC Honors Court, recognizing those collegiate bas-ketball student-athletes who excelled in academics during the 2017-18 season.

In order to earn a NABC Team Academic Excellence Award, an institution must have a cumula-tive team grade point average of 3.0 or better for the 2017-18 season. The Tartans earned a team cumulative GPA of 3.38.

The NABC Honors Court recognizes the talents and gifts that these men possess off the court, and the hard work they exhibit in the classroom. In order to be named to the Honors Court, a student-athlete must be academically a junior or senior, have a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the 2017-18 academic year, must have matriculated at least one year at their current institution and be a member of an NCAA Division I, II, III, or NAIA Insti-tution.

The three Tartans honored were seniors Thomas Cook (Baltimore, Md./Carver Arts & Tech.) and Ryan Maha (West Mifflin, Pa.) along with junior Seth Henry (Fulton, Md./Reservoir).
