Henry Records Double-Double in Season Opener Setback at Chatham

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team opened its 2018-19 season at Chatham University on Tuesday night and dropped an 88-70 decision to the Cougars. Chatham moves to 2-0 on the season after shooting 58% from the floor against the Tartans while Carnegie Mellon end the night shooting 41%.

Carnegie Mellon was led by senior Seth Henry (Fulton, Md./Reservoir) with a game-high 26 points. The senior connected on 9-of-13 from the floor and was perfect from the foul line making all seven attempts. Henry also turned in a game-high 11 rebounds to record his eighth career double-double. Junior Zach Howarth (Freehold, N.J./St. John Vianney) scored 18 points and was 9-of-12 from the charity stripe on the night.

Both teams started the game with the hot hand, as Carnegie Mellon made 6-of-10 while Chatham connected on 10-of-13 and held a 24-18 advantage eight minutes into play. Four minutes later, the Tartans cut the lead to 31-29 on a trey by sophomore Zach Watson (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) followed by Howarth making the second of his two free throws. The Cougars then closed the half on an 11-4 run to head into the locker room with a 42-33 lead. Carnegie Mellon end the half shooting 44.0% (11-25) from the floor to Chatham's 55.2% (16-29).

Howarth connected on a pair of foul shots four minutes into the second half to make the score 49-42, but over the next three minutes the Cougars used an 11-2 run to push the lead back to double digits at 60-44. The run was extended to 19-4, as Chatham connected on 8-of-9 from the floor during the stretch to take its largest lead of the game at 68-46 with 11 minutes to play. Carnegie Mellon answered with an 11-3 run to make the score 71-57 with seven minute to play, but that was as close as the Tartans got, as the home team went on for the 18-point victory.

Carnegie Mellon will be back on the hardwood Saturday, November 17 with a 5:00 p.m. tip at Penn State Behrend in Erie, Pennsylvania.
