Tartans Take Road Victory at Bethany

(BETHANY, W.Va.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team were led by four players in double figures in a 69-60 road victory against Bethany College on Saturday afternoon. The Tartans move to 2-5 for the season while the Bison fall to 1-6.

Sophomore Ethan Miller (King of Prussia, Pa. / Upper Merion) scored a career-high 19 points off the bench to lead the Tartans in scoring. Junior Zach Howarth (Freehold, N.J. / St. John Vianney) recorded 14 points, eight rebounds and four assists while senior Seth Henry (Fulton, Md. / Reservoir) dropped in 13 points to go with nine rebounds. Sophomore Zach Watson (Dublin, Ohio / Jerome) added 11 points, with nine coming in the second half.

The Tartans held a 29-18 halftime lead after converting 42.9% of their shots from the field. The defense held Bethany 20.0% shooting and forced seven turnovers.

A layup by Henry put the Tartans up 11-4 nine minutes in before Bethany pulled it to 15-12 with six minutes to play in the first half. Miller made the Tartans next two baskets and scored 10 of his 19 points in the final six minutes of the half, including two three-pointers with one on the Tartans final possession of the half.

Two free throws by Howarth to open the second half extended the Tartans lead to 13 points. The Bison would climb back to within four points, 50-46, with a layup by Trey Shifflett and 5:36 to play. Henry answered with a jump shot and started a 7-0 run to put the visitors back up by 11 with 3:35 to go.

The Tartans will continue a six-game road stand at La Roche College on Monday, November 3 at 7:00 p.m.
