Tartans Strong Second Half Shooting Leads to 75-54 Win at Washington & Jefferson

(WASHINGTON, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team resumed play following a 10-day break on Tuesday and walked away with a 75-54 win at Washington & Jefferson College. The win moves the Tartans record to 4-6 overall while the Presidents are now 5-6.

Carnegie Mellon shot 59.4% (19-32) from the floor in the second half and 50.8% (30-59) for the game while holding W&J to 35.8% (19-53) for the game. The Tartans held the edge on the glass for the eighth time this season grabbing 45 boards to the Presidents 25.

Three Tartans scored in double figures with senior Seth Henry (Fulton, Md./Reservoir) leading the way with 15 points. Junior Zach Howarth (Freehold, N.J./St. John Vianney) ended with 14 and junior Trent Suddeth (Winter Park, Fla./Trinity Prep) recorded his second double-double of the season with 10 points and a season-best 11 rebounds. Junior Colin McNeil (Ringoes, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) handed out six assists in the win.

Cameron Seemann led the Presidents with 14 points and five rebounds while Nicholas Campalong scored 12 and grabbed four boards.

With the Tartans trailing 8-7 at the 15:29 mark of the first half, the visitors used a 15-2 run over a six-minute span to take a 22-10 lead and never looked back. During the run, Henry accounted for nine points, including seven straight in the middle of the spurt. A pair of free throws by Suddeth with 6:38 to play in the half gave the Cardinal and Gray the largest lead of the first half at 27-14. The Presidents then closed the half on a 10-4 run to cut the Tartans lead to 31-24 at the break.

Carnegie Mellon opened the second frame scoring the first eight points and then extended its lead to 45-29 with 15:30 to play on back-to-back three-point buckets by Howarth. Howarth's career-high fourth triple of the game at the 8-minute mark pushed the Tartans lead to 63-40 and Carnegie Mellonnever lost the double-digit lead the rest of the game.

Carnegie Mellon will travel to the University of Akron on Sunday, December 30 for an exhibition game against the Zips. Tip is set for 2:00 p.m. with the game to be streamed on ESPN3.
