Howarth Named CoSIDA Academic All-District

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Carnegie Mellon University junior Zach Howarth (Freehold, N.J./St. John Vianney) was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Google Cloud Academic All-District Men's Basketball Team. Howarth is one of five players, and lone junior, on the District 4 team. To be nominated for the award, a student-athlete must be a starter or significant reserve and maintain a GPA of 3.3 or better.

Carnegie Mellon is part of District 4 that is comprised of all Division III schools in the state of Pennsylvania. Howarth will now move on to the national ballot for Academic All-America recognition.

Howarth leads the Tartans and is currently tied for second in the University Athletic Association (UAA) averaging 16.7 points per game. He has recorded seven 20-point games this season, including a career-best 29 points at the University of Chicago. The senior leads the UAA in free throws made and attempted, converting 100-of-135 for 74.1%. Howarth also tabbed single-game career-highs in rebounds and assists this season when he hauled down nine boards at La Roche and handed out six assists against Mount Union. Howarth needs 104 points to become the 20th Tartan to reach the 1,000-point milestone.

In the classroom, Howarth carries a 3.56 GPA as a business administration major. He is a member of the Carnegie Mellon Tepper Finance Group, including a portfolio manager in the Tartan Student Fund. Last summer he interned as a financial analyst with a wealth management group in New Jersey and will be interning this summer with Morgan Stanley in their fixed-income division.
