Men’s Basketball Earns Team Academic Honors by NABC for Seventh Straight Season; Five Individuals Honored

(KANSAS CITY, Mo.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team was recognized by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) when the committee on academics announced the annual Team Academic Excellence Awards for 2018-19. In the seventh year of the program, the Tartans are one of 12 institutions from Division I, II, III, NAIA and NJCAA that have been recognized each of the seven years.

Besides the team being honored, five members were selected to the NABC Honors Court, recognizing those collegiate basketball student-athletes who excelled in academics during the 2018-19 season.

In order to earn a NABC Team Academic Excellence Award, an institution must have a cumulative team grade point average of 3.0 or better for the 2018-19 season. The Tartans earned a team cumulative GPA of 3.56.   

The NABC Honors Court recognizes the talents and gifts that these men possess off the court, and the hard work they exhibit in the classroom. In order to be named to the Honors Court, a student-athlete must be academically a junior or senior, have a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the 2018-19 academic year, must have matriculated at least one year at their current institution and be a member of an NCAA Division I, II, III, or NAIA Institution.

The five Tartans honored were senior Seth Henry (Fulton, Md./Reservoir) along with juniors Zach Howarth (Freehold, N.J./St. John Vianney), Colin McNeil (Ringoes, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional), Trent Suddeth (Winter Park, Fla./Trinity Prep) and Cooper Williams (Meriden, N.H. / Kimball Union Academy).
