Tartans Unable to Overcome Raiders First Half Run

(ALLIANCE, Ohio) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team traveled to Alliance, Ohio on Friday night and dropped a 94-72 contest to the University of Mount Union. The Tartans are now 0-2 while the Raiders move to 2-0.

Junior Ethan Miller (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) led the Tartans with 16 points converting 6-of-9 from the floor and recorded a career-high five blocks. Classmate Daniel Weiss (Marlboro, N.J.) recorded double figures for the second straight game, as he finished with 14 points after shooting 6-of-10 from the field. Miller and Weiss both recorded two triples for the Tartans who as a team shot 8-of-22 (36.4%) from behind the arc.

Senior Trent Suddeth (Winter Park, Fla./Trinity Prep) grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds, five coming off the offensive glass. The senior added eight points and also handed out a career-best five assists. Senior Colin McNeil (Ringoes, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) and junior Joey Krempa (Linden, N.J.) also each dished out five assists. For Krempa, it marked a career-high.

The Raiders had five players score in double figures Braedon Poole led with 16 points while Tanner Slack chipped in with 15, Chris Painter and Collen Gurley each had 13 and Logan Hill had 11 points.

Carnegie Mellon used an 8-2 run midway through the first half and took a 22-19 lead with 10:47 to play on a layup by Weiss. Mount Union then went on a 22-6 run over the next eight minutes and led 41-28. The Raiders then took a 44-32 lead into the locker room.

The Tartans did not pull closer than 10 points in the second half as Mount Union went on to the 22-point win.

Carnegie Mellon returns to the hardwood on Wednesday, November 20 when the Bethany College Bison travel to Pittsburgh for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
