Holmes Garners Second UAA Athlete of the Week Honor

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – For the second time in the last three weeks, sophomore R.J. Holmes (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Adlai Stevenson) of the Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team has been named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week. Holmes helped the Tartans to a pair of wins last week as the Tartans are now 4-2 overall.

Holmes averaged 22.5 points, 10.0 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game while shooting 78.3% (18-23) from the field and 80.0% (8-10) from the foul line. He opened the week with 13 points and seven rebounds in an 84-64 win over Oberlin College while playing just 11 minutes. In the Tartans 104-99 overtime win at Washington & Jefferson College, Holmes tallied his second career double-double with 32 points and a career-high 13 rebounds while adding a career-high six blocks. He converted 13-of-16 from the floor including connecting on a pivotal three-point basket with 35 seconds left in overtime to help seal the victory.

Carnegie Mellon will return to the hardwood on Saturday, December 11 with a 2:00 p.m. tip against Denison University at Wiegand Gymnasium.
