Holmes Earns Third UAA Athlete of the Week Accolade

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – For the third time this season, sophomore R.J. Holmes (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Adlai Stevenson) of the Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team has been named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week. Holmes helped the Tartans to a pair of wins last week including an upset victory over third-ranked Washington University on St. Louis.

Holmes averaged 20.5 points and 7.0 rebounds while shooting 65.2% (15-23) from the field. He opened the weekend with 20 points and eight rebounds in a 71-68 win over WashU. In the Tartans 75-57 overtime win over the University of Chicago on Sunday, Holmes recorded his second straight, and sixth this season, 20-point game with 21 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field and an 8-for-11 showing from the free throw line while grabbing six rebounds and recording three blocks.

Carnegie Mellon will next travel to St. Louis to play Washington University on Friday, February 4 at 5:30 p.m. CT.
