Men’s Basketball Earns 11th Straight Team Academic Honors by NABC; Five Individuals Honored

The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team was recognized by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) when the committee on academics announced the annual Team Academic Excellence Awards for 2022-23. The Tartans are one of seven schools across all divisions that have achieved the honor each of the 11 seasons it has existed.

Six Carnegie Mellon University student-athletes were selected for spring initiation into the Upsilon of Pennsylvania chapter of the Phi Beta Kappa Society. The induction ceremony took place on May 11.

Juniors R.J. Holmes and Jack Stone along with senior Nick Nakasian of the Carnegie Mellon University men’s basketball team were named to the University Athletic Association (UAA) Men’s Basketball Team when the league announced its postseason accolades on Thursday. Holmes and Stone landed a spot on the second team while Nakasian was named honorable mention. This marks Holmes’ second straight All-UAA honor, as he appeared on the second team last season while it is the first for Stone and Nakasian.

The Carnegie Mellon University men’s basketball team hosted Allegheny College on Wednesday, March 1 in the opening round of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Men’s Basketball Championship. The Gators started with the hot hand and led wire-to-wire for an 88-68 win to move to 20-9 overall while the Tartans close the year at 15-11.
