Stone’s Late Triple Lifts Tartans to a 65-64 Victory at Brandeis
(WALTHAM, Mass.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team traveled to Waltham, Massachusetts Sunday afternoon for a University Athletic Association (UAA) tilt with the Judges of Brandeis University. The Tartans left with a 65-64 victory.

How it Happened
- A layup by junior Jack Stone gave the Tartans a 9-4 lead five minutes into play.
- Brandeis then used a 15-3 run over the next five minutes and led 19-13.
- Senior Keven Sax pulled the Tartans to within a point at 25-24 at the 4:40 mark, but the home scored 11 of the final 13 points of the half and took a 36-26 lead into the break following a triple by Quron Zene at the buzzer.
- The Judges run expanded to start the second half to 20-4 and with 16:48 on the clock Brandeis held a 45-28 lead.
- The home team held a double-digit lead over the next eight plus minutes until the Tartans scored 10 straight and made the score 52-47 with eight minutes to play in the contest.
- A three-point basket by Stone with 1:06 remaining in regulation gave the Tartans a 65-64 lead, their first since early in the first half.
- The triple by Stone proved to be the game winner as neither team scored the rest of the way. Brandeis had a chance for the win in the closing seconds, but a missed jumper by Ryan Power did not fall.
Tartans Stats
- The Cardinal and Gray shot 50.0% (23-46) from the field including converting 7-of-13 triples for 53.8%.
- Stone led the Tartans with 19 points. The junior converted 7-of-13 from the floor while connecting on 3-of-5 from long range.
- Stone led all players with eight rebounds.
- Junior R.J. Holmes scored 13 points in the win.
- Senior Nick Nakasian dished out a career-high six assists while classmate Josh Berry recorded five assists.
Judges Stats
- Power led four Judges in double figures with 13 points. Toby Harris and Dylan Lien each had 12 points while Zene finished with 10.
- Zene led Brandeis with seven rebounds and five assists, as Griffin Walbridge also had five assists.
Game Notes
- Carnegie Mellon is 10-1 when holding its opponents to 73 points or less this season.
- It was the fourth time this season the Tartans shot 50.0% or better from the field and they have now won 10 straight contests when doing so.
- The 12 wins for the Tartans is the most since the 2016-17 campaign.
