Men’s Basketball Earns Spot in ECAC Tournament

(DANBURY, Conn) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team has been selected as the third seed in the seven-team field of the 2023 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Men's Basketball Championship.

This marks the Tartans first postseason appearance since 2017 when they played in the quarterfinals of the ECAC tournament. The Tartans were elected to host a quarterfinal game on Wednesday, March 1 against Allegheny College with tip set for 7 p.m. in Weigand Gymnasium.

The semifinals and championship will be played on Saturday and Sunday, March 4-5, hosted by Alfred University in Alfred, New York. The Saxons (20-7) receive a quarterfinal bye and will play the winner of Carnegie Mellon (15-10) and Allegheny (19-9) in the semifinals.

The two other quarterfinal games are No. 1 Alvernia University (19-8) traveling to No. 7 Juniata College (17-10) and No. 4 Neumann University (20-7) hosting No. 5 Manhattanville College (21-7). The winners will meet in the other semifinal at Alfred on Saturday.

The championship contest is set for Sunday, March 5 with a time to be determined.

The ECAC appearance will be the fifth for the Tartans, who won the ECAC South Tournament in 2008 and have an overall record of 4-3 in tournament play.
