Men’s Golf Team Receives Academic Accolades for 2012-13 Season

The Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team was one of 28 NCAA Division III institutions in receiving the All-Academic Team award from the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). The Tartans finished the year with a cumulative grade point average of 3.38 finishing as one of the top Division III institutions.

Junior Ian Bangor (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy) of Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf became the second golfer in school history to be named an All-American. Bangor was recognized on the NCAA Division III PING All-America third team by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).

For the second straight season, Carnegie Mellon University junior Ian Bangor (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy), a member of men’s golf, was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Men's At-Large Team. CoSIDA recognizes outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments by honoring deserving athletes with All-Academic recognition with the official sponsor of Capital One.

The Carnegie Mellon University golf team had two members named to the 2013 PING Mid-Atlantic Region team by the Golf Coaches Association of America. Junior Ian Bangor (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy) and freshman Ben DuCarme (McMurray, Pa./Canon-McMillan) became the 10th and 11th Tartans to be honored as all-region. This marks Bangor’s third straight season accomplishing the honor. He was also was named a Division III Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar.

Carnegie Mellon University junior Ian Bangor (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy) of men’s golf competed in the second round of the 2013 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships on Wednesday, May 15. Bangor missed the cut after 36 holes of the championships which are being held at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Destin, Florida hosted by Methodist University.

Junior Ian Bangor (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy) of the Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team competed at the 2013 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships. Bangor fired a seven-over par 79 on Tuesday, May 14 in the opening round. The championship is being held at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Destin, Florida hosted by Methodist University.

The Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team hosted their Annual Invitational Thursday, April 25 at the Longue Vue Country Club. The Tartans placed first with a team score of 315, one stroke ahead of Division II California University of Pennsylvania. The Tartans entered a second team into the invitational, as they finished third with a score of 324.

Carnegie Mellon University golf team finished second at the Doug Rogers Memorial Golf Tournament, hosted by Saint Vincent at the Arnold Palmer's Latrobe Country Club. The Tartans carded a 322 on the par-72 course as the host Bearcats won the tournament with a score of 315.

At the final day of the Edward Jones Shootout Sunday, April 14, the Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team shot a 306 on day two to place fourth. The Tartans ended the 36-hole event with a team score of 618. Point Park won the two-day event that was held at the par-70, The Links @ Spring Church in Apollo, Pa. with a team score of 600.

The Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team hosted the first day of the annual Edward Jones Shootout Saturday, April 13 at The Links @ Spring Church in Apollo, Pa. Following the first round, the Tartans are in fourth-place after they fired a team score of 312 on the par-70 course.

The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team currently is in fourth-place at the 15-team Hershey Cup following the first round of play in the 36-hole tournament. On Sunday, the Tartans fired a team score of 318 on the par-71, East Course at Hershey Country Club. The two-day event is being hosted by the University of Rochester.

When the Carnegie Mellon golf program headed south to play its first tournaments of the spring, the Tartans were much further along than they’ve been in the past. No longer restricted by the Pittsburgh winter, the men’s golf team has been busy playing top courses from all across the country on the state-of-the-art simulator in its new indoor facility.
