Men’s Golf Receives Academic Accolades for 2014-15 Season

The 2014-15 Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team was one of 34 NCAA Division III institutions in receiving the All-Academic Team award from the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). The Tartans finished the year with a cumulative grade point average of 3.39 finishing as one of the top Division III institutions.

Sophomore George Qian (Bettendorf, Iowa/Montverde Academy) became the third Carnegie Mellon University men’s golfer in school history to be named All-America. Qian was recognized on the NCAA Division III PING All-America honorable mention team by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA), joining Ian and Paul Bangor as the only other All-Americans in Tartan golf history. Ian achieved the honor in 2013 while his father Paul received the distinction in 1985.

Carnegie Mellon University sophomore George Qian (Bettendorf, Iowa/Montverde Academy), a member of the men’s golf team, was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Men's At-Large Team. CoSIDA recognizes outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments by honoring deserving athletes with All-Academic recognition with the official sponsor of Capital One.

Four Carnegie Mellon University men’s golfers have been recognized for their play on the course his past season. Senior Cameron Low (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward) along with sophomores George Qian (Bettendorf, Iowa/Montverde Academy) and Jordan Klodowski (Kittanning, Pa.) were named to the 2015 PING Mid-Atlantic Region team by the Golf Coaches Association of America while senior Justin Fischler (Avon, Conn.) was named a Division III Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar.

The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team placed fifth at the Mercyhurst University Spring Invitational Monday, April 20 after carding a 36-hole team score of 615 (306-309). Mercyhurst won the event with a score of 601 (301-300) on the par-72 Lake View Country Club.

The Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team carded a first round team score of 306 at the Mercyhurst University Spring Invitational Sunday, April 19. The 36-hole event is being played on the par-72 course at Lake View Country Club in Northeast, Pennsylvania.

Carnegie Mellon University Sophomore George Qian (Bettendorf, Iowa/Montverde Academy) was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Men's Golf Athlete of the Week following two top-five finishes including individual medalist honors during last week. The honor is Qian's second of the season.

The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team hosted its annual fall invitational on Tuesday, April 14 and carded a 305 to place fifth as a team. The 18-hole event was held at the Longue Vue Club. Brian Giesler from Grove City was the individual medalist shooting a one-under par 69.

At the final day of the Edward Jones Shootout Sunday, April 12, the Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team shot a season-low round of 288 to place first at the annual Shootout finishing the tournament with a team score of 583 (295-288) which set a new school record for a two-round team score. The previous record was 593. The two-round event was held at The Links @ Spring Church in Apollo, Pennsylvania. The Tartans claimed four of the top five individual spots.

The Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team hosted the first day of the annual Edward Jones Shootout Saturday, April 11 at The Links @ Spring Church in Apollo, Pennsylvania. The Tartans entered two teams into the Shootout with the ‘B’ squad appearing as individuals on the official results. The Tartans ‘B’ Team currently leads the field after firing a 294 Saturday on the par-70 course.

At the final day of the Hershey Cup, sophomore George Qian (Bettendorf, Iowa/Montverde Academy) of the Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team tied the school record for the lowest round with a four-under par 67 on Monday, April 6. The 36-hole tournament is being held on the par-71 East Course at Hershey Country Club where the Tartans finished with a team score of 620 (318-302) to place fourth as team, one-stroke behind nationally ranked St. John Fisher.

The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team currently is tied for fifth-place at the 15-team Hershey Cup following the first round of play in the 36-hole tournament. On Sunday, the Tartans fired a team score of 318 on the par-71, East Course at Hershey Country Club. The two-day event is being hosted by the University of Rochester.

The Tartans finished tied for 21st after 54 holes of play with a three-round total of 913 (302-311-300). The three-day event was played on the 6,711-yard, par-72 Pine Lakes Course on Jekyll Island.

The Tartans turned in a team score of 302 in a field of 30 teams. The three-day, 54-hole event is being held at the par-72 Pine Lakes Course on Jekyll Island.
