Pomerantz Awarded Prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship

Carnegie Mellon University men’s golfer Alexander Pomerantz has been selected to receive an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship for excelling academically and athletically while showing leadership and commitment to the community. Pomerantz is one of 29 spring sport male athletes across all three NCAA divisions to earn the scholarship.

The 2016-17 Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team was one of 29 NCAA Division III institutions in receiving the All-Academic Team award from the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). The Tartans finished the year with a cumulative grade point average of 3.29.

For the third straight season, senior George Qian (Bettendorf, Iowa/Montverde Academy) of the Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team has been recognized as a NCAA Division III PING All-America by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). This year, Qian lands a spot on the third team after being named honorable mention the previous two seasons.

Senior men’s golfer George Qian (Bettendorf, Iowa/Montverde Academy) was selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) as a 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-American on the Men’s At-Large Team. The team honors athletes from eight different sports with Qian being one of four golfers to earn the award. His placement on the second team is the first of his career.

The Carnegie Mellon University golf team had three members honored by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) at its annual awards dinner on Tuesday, May 16 in Howey-In-The-Hills, Florida. In addition, first-year head coach Dan Rodgers was named as one of five NCAA Division III finalists for the Dave Williams Award presented by Golf Pride Grips.

Senior George Qian (Bettendorf, Iowa/Montverde Academy) of the Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team competed in the final round of the 2017 NCAA Division III Championships on Friday, May 19. Qian placed tied for 30th in a field of 215 golfers at the four-round event held at the Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida.

Senior George Qian (Bettendorf, Iowa/Montverde Academy) of the Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team competed in the third round of the 2017 NCAA Division III Championships on Thursday, May 17. Qian continued play in the championships after qualifying as one of six individuals not on the 18 top teams that made the cut following two rounds of play.

The Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team competed in the second round of the 2017 NCAA Division III Championships on Wednesday, May 17 and carded a 320. The Tartans played the par-72, 6,888-yard Las Colinas Course at the Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida on Wednesday and finished 31st with a 647 (327-320).

The Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team opened play in the first round of the 2017 NCAA Division III Championships on Tuesday, May 16. The Tartans fired a team score of 327 on the par-72, 6,844-yard El Campeón Course at the Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. Huntingdon College leads the championships after the opening round of play with a five-over-par 293.

Four Carnegie Mellon University athletes were recognized by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on the 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-District Men’s and Women’s At-Large Teams. Senior men’s golfer George Qian (Bettendorf, Iowa/Montverde Academy) earns the award for the third time while senior men’s tennis player Kenny Zheng (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central), senior women’s tennis player Nicholle Torres (Weston, Fla./Great Neck South) and junior women’s swimmer Kim Hochstedler (Mishawaka, Ind./Penn) receive the honor for the first time.

The Carnegie Mellon University golf team has been selected to compete in the 2017 NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championships. The championships will be held May 16-19, at the Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida on the El Campeón Course and Las Colinas Course. Oglethorpe University will be hosting the four-day event. The appearance by the Tartans at the championships marks the program’s second trip, as the 2009 team finished 22nd at the national event.

The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team had two athletes honored by the University Athletic Association’s (UAA) coaches on the All-UAA team when the awards were announced May 4. Senior George Qian (Bettendorf, Iowa/Montverde Academy) and junior Nikhil Mohan (Bangalore, India/Canadian International School) were named to the first team. The two played a factor in helping the 20th-ranked Tartans to their highest national ranking.

Senior George Qian (Bettendorf, Iowa/Montverde Academy) of the Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team has been named by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) as a semifinalist for the NCAA Division III Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award presented by Barbasol. The Nicklaus Award recognizes the top players at the Division I, II, III, NAIA and NJCAA levels.

In the closing round of the 2017 Carnegie Mellon Spring Shootout, the Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team carded a 294 to end the event with a 595 (301-294) on Sunday, April 9 to win the nine-team event. The two-day, 36-hole event was held at The Links at Spring Church in Apollo, Pennsylvania. The win marks the Tartans third straight on the 6,516-yard, par-70 course at the annual Shootout.
