Men’s Golf Places Fifth at The Tartan Invitational

(LIGONIER, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team, ranked 11th nationally, competed in the final round of The Tartan Invitational on Tuesday and carded a team score of 295. The Tartans placed fifth in a field of 12 teams with a 900 (303-302-295). The 54-hole, two-day event was hosted by Carnegie Mellon and played at the historic Laurel Valley Golf Club in Ligonier, Pennsylvania, which is a par 72, 7,156 yard course.

Wittenberg University, ranked fourth nationally, and Emory University, the nation's top team, were tied at the end of 54 holes with an 873. Wittenberg's Cameron Willis and Emory's Matt Organisak played in a playoff to decide the team champion. Willis drained a 25-foot putt on 18 to win the team championship for Wittenberg. Organisak claimed the individual medalist with a three-under par 213 (73-67-73) while Willis was the runner-up after shooting a under 215 (70-73-72).

Sophomore Jason Li (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) shot a 220 (75-73-72) for the 54-hole event after carding an even par 72 to closeout play. Sophomore Jason Folker (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) finished with a 221 (69-76-76) while freshman William Knauth (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) carded his second straight round of one-over par 73 on Tuesday to finish the invitational with a 225 (79-73-73).

Sophomore Jay Milch (Mount Kisco, N.Y./Fox Lane) shot a 54-hole score of 237 (81-80-76). Freshman Joshua Lim (San Francisco, Calif./Lowell) entered the clubhouse with a two-over par 74 on Tuesday and shot a 239 (80-85-74) over the two days.

Carnegie Mellon will be back on the links October 14-15 when the play in the Golfweek Fall Preview. The two-day evet is being held at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort's Baytowne Golf Club in Destin, Florida.

Laurel Valley Golf Club opened in 1959 and was designed by Dick Wilson and renovated by Arnold Palmer. Since its opening, the club has hosted two notable tournaments: the 1965 PGA Championship and the 1975 Ryder Cup. Other tournaments played on the course include the 1989 U.S. Senior Open, the 2001 Marconi Pennsylvania Classic and the 2005 Senior PGA Championship.
