Tartans Fire a 291 to Open Play at the Jekyll Island Collegiate

(JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team competed in the first round of the Jekyll Collegiate Invitational on Friday. The Tartans carded a team score of 291 and are currently tied for sixth in a field comprised of 30 teams, with 14 of the nation's top 25 in Division III including the top four. The three-day, 54-hole event is being held on the 6,700-yard, par-72 Pine Lakes Course on Jekyll Island.

Sophomore Jason Li (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) carded three birdies and eagled hole 18 on Friday to lead the Tartans with a three-under par 69, tying his career-low round. Li currently is tied for fourth individually in a field of 150 golfers.

Senior Patrick Tan (Vancouver, British Columbia/Prince of Wales Secondary) fired a season-best round of even par 72 while freshman Joshua Lim (San Francisco, Calif./Lowell) carded a one-over par 73. Sophomore Jason Folker (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) end play on Friday with a 77 while freshman William Knauth (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) shot an 80.

Carnegie Mellon had two individuals play on the par-72 Oleander Course. Sophomore Jay Milch (Mount Kisco, N.Y./Fox Lane) carded a 74 while freshman James Pak (Palisades Park, N.J./Bergen Catholic)s hot an 83.

The second round of the event will be held Saturday, March 16 with the first group teeing off at 8:00 a.m.
