Knauth Leads Tartans at First Round of The Hershey Cup

(HERSHEY, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team opened play on Sunday at the 15-team Hershey Cup. The Tartans as a team are in third after carding a 301 on the par-71, East Course at Hershey Country Club. The two-day, 36-hole event finds Franklin & Marshall leading with a 294 followed by Wittenberg University with a 295.

Freshman William Knauth (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) led the Tartans on Sunday and currently is tied for fifth individually in a field of 84 golfers after carding a career-best round of one-over par 72.

Senior Austin Lin (Los Gatos, Calif./Archbishop Mitty) and sophomore Jason Folker (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) each fired rounds of 76 while sophomore Jason Li (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) entered the clubhouse with a 77. Sophomore Jay Milch (Mount Kisco, N.Y./Fox Lane) finished with an 87 on Sunday afternoon.

Carnegie Mellon had one individual enter the invitational, as freshman Henry Scavone (Birmingham, Mich./Birmingham Seaholm) shot a 79.

Day two continues Monday, April 8 at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.
